The Woman Who Wooed a King: Wallis Simpson
Can you imagine the scandal? A twice divorced, very fashionable, 40 year-old American socialite seducing King Edward VIII from the British throne. Well it happened and she did!
Her name is Wallis Simpson and 1937 was the year of the most elegant scandal of the decade. Their relationship caused a royal crisis that culminated when the king made an abdication broadcast to the nation in December 1936, declaring "I have found it impossible ... to discharge my duties as king as I would wish to do without the help and support of the woman I love." The British government opposed the king's marriage to Simpson, leaving him little choice if he wanted to marry her, according to journalist Raphael Satter for Associated Press.
Isn't that pretty amazing! I say it's good to see true love prevail! Well a set of jewels once owned by Wallis Simpson earned nearly 8 million pounds ($12.5 million) at a Sotheby's auction in London on Tuesday. Take a look at some of the great vintage jewelry. A girl can dream right? It's rumored that Madonna bought one of her pieces. I think she is directing a movie about her too!

Marching Band Geek Lust!
I am really wanting a great cape these days! I saw this one on eBay awhile ago and I had to share it with you! Apparently it's from sometime between the 60s and 70s. It's not on sale anymore but I think it's something that should be re-created...don't you agree? I am really inspired by band uniforms especially the jackets and vests. So if you see one at your local thrift store pick it up! I think it's edgier and unique looking compared to the current military tend. So share...what are you inspired by these days? What should be brought back from the past?

21 Must Wear Red Lipsticks
Hi Everyone! Thanks for stopping by and having a look at my blog. This morning I woke up with a need to find a new red lipstick. I do have quiet a few but I'm always looking for that perfect vintage shade. You know the one that will make people mistake me for Elizabeth Taylor in the 50s...why that quizzical look? IT COULD HAPPEN! I type indignantly, lol. Anyway back to reality. I remembered seeing that Revlon just re-released a vintage shade called Fire and Ice at my local drugstore, but I wanted to do some preliminary research first before I cash out some dough...so to speak. So in my attempt to find more information I stumbled across this great article by Charlotte Twine on ELLE.com. Take a look! It might inspire you to find your perfect shade of red!
Happy Reading & Fashions,
Elisa L'Amourxoxo
----------------------------------------------------
Day 1: M.A.C Ruby Woo
Ok, let me just tell you where I'm coming from: I love matte lipsticks, and I love a great blue-red. Dita Von Teese is my lipstick inspiration. But also, in terms of matte, I like the texture that was prevalent in the mid '90s (I know, I'm dating myself). I saw a Rolling Stone magazine cover of Wilson Phillips from the '90s the other day, and all three chicks were wearing the mattest of matte red lipsticks. Perfect texture! Why don't they make 'em like that anymore? Well, it turns out they do: M.A.C Ruby Woo. It’s even a fave of Dita Von Teese (per her Twitter). The color is thick and rich, blue-red, and it does not budge all day. All day. So, hey, hold on, Carnie, Wendy, and Chynna: I’ve got the perfect lipstick for you.
Day 2: Dolce & Gabbana Iconic
Would you believe I met a really cute boy because of Dolce & Gabbana’s Classic Cream Lipstick in Iconic? I wore the lipstick, a satisfyingly bright orange red opaque formula with a glossy finish, to a friend’s house to watch Twilight. I was sitting on her sofa, waiting for the video to start (and, okay, thinking of Edward Cullen), when her four-year-old son walked up to me thisclose and said: “Why are you wearing lipstick?!” Stumped, I replied, “Because I like to look pretty?” He threw up his hands, ran around the room, and yelled, “OH WOW, BEAUTIFUL!” I’ll take this kid over Edward Cullen anytime.
Day 3: Revlon Fire and Ice
Today, I feel very nostalgic; I’m wearing Revlon Super Lustrous lipstick Fire and Ice. This lipstick has been around since at least the 1950s, when Revlon threw a huge advertising campaign for it with such lines as “Would you streak your hair with platinum without consulting your husband?” The lipstick feels wonderful on—not too greasy or dry, just perfect. And the color? Elle associate beauty editor Maura Lynch took one look and said, “Now that’s a perfect coral red!” I was thrilled, then realized I was struck by the urge to put streaks in my hair.
Day 4: Estée Lauder Rich Red
Busy day at work—and everything needs to be done YESTERDAY. I need a boost. My boss says, “I’m not used to not seeing you in red lipstick.” Bingo! I decide to put on Estée Lauder Signature Hydra Lustre Lipstick in Rich Red in honor of the original beauty biz workaholic, Estée Lauder (who showed up at the office until well into her eighties). I swipe on the lustrous, creamy blue red color, inhale its feminine floral scent, and take in my reflection. My boss says it perfectly, “Ah, much more you.” Thanks, Estée!
Day 5: Nars Jungle Red
Normally, I tiptoe around the orange-y shades, but I shocked myself by loving the bright red tone of Jungle Red by Nars, as well as its amazing long-lasting texture, which is a just-right combo of matte and slick. When I asked burlesque star World Famous *BOB* what her favorite red lipstick is (burlesque stars know a thing or two about makeup), she said she also loved Jungle Red, because “it’s bright and has staying power—two things I strive for myself.” Amen! That deserves a shimmy or two.
Day 6 and Day 7: Shiseido 415 and Chanel Lover
I’ve been rocking two amazing lipsticks the past couple of days, courtesy of the recommendations of two awesome Elle beauty staffers: Assistant Janna Johnson’s fave red lipstick is Shiseido 415, while senior editor April Long says je t’adore to Chanel Lover. I wear Lover when I’m in a more sedate mood and crave something rose red, silky, and a little sheer, with a lovely, delicate powdery scent. And when I’m up for standing out in the crowd, the Shiseido is a great bet; it’s a bolder, more opaque formula, a true red. Two different lipsticks courtesy of two different ladies. Merci!
Day 8: M.A.C Russian Red
I had a job interview the other day, and I couldn’t help but to think WWMD? What Would Madonna Do? Put on a cone bra, bulldoze into the head honcho’s office, and start vogue-ing? Well, I couldn’t do that, but I could shore up my confidence by wearing Russian Red by M.A.C, a phenomenal dark red matte shade that Madonna wore during her Blonde Ambition tour in the 90s. It’s truly one of my favorite lipstick shades ever, long-lasting and rich as all get out. And something must have worked, because I did put on the Russian Red that day and P.S.: I got the job.
Day 9: Armani Hollywood Red
Crystals, black velvet, Armani label? Sounds like something Beyoncé would wear to a red carpet event; in fact, it’s the luxe packaging for ArmaniSilk, the brand’s latest lipstick. I tried on the Hollywood Red shade during an annoying morning commute (my train’s engine broke down, then I was stranded on a cold platform for 20 minutes), and I have to tell you, the vivid red color really did give my crabby self a lift. The formula feels amazingly light and sheer on the lips, aided by “an exceptional blend of Micro silk powders,” the company’s site says. I just know I’ll keep this lipstick around for my next bungled commute.
Day 10: Lipstick Queen Rouge Sinner
Poppy King is one of my personal heroes: She started her own lipstick line at 18 by looking up a cosmetic manufacturer in the phone book. When I was 18, I was cutting classes to go to the movies (but that’s a whole other story). Today, hoping for a piece of her energy and gumption, I’m wearing her Lipstick Queen Rouge Sinner. For aficionados, the thicker texture (shea butter and 90 percent pigment) and dark shade is similar to M.A.C Russian Red, if a little more on the rose side. Poppy says it “looks good on everyone night or day.” Ah, I can feel the entrepreneurial urge kicking in right now…
Day 11: E.l.f Royal Red
Want a bold color but not quite ready for stoplight red? I would try E.l.f. Royal Red. It’s surprising when you first open the cap—the lipstick is a gold color with just a little bit of burgundy. But once on, it’s a wine red with a gold sheen. And it’s pretty long-lasting; it hung in there through my lunch with co-workers. I had a margarita and cheese enchilada with mole sauce, and the shade stayed prettily without leaving that annoying ring around your mouth, which often happens when your lip color is wearing off.
Day 13: Lipstick Queen Medieval
Ultimate test of a lip stain? See if you can apply it on a jerking train without looking, and then have it look right when you check in a mirror. Lipstick Queen Medieval successfully passed this test—and New Jersey Transit trains are probably the jerkiest of the jerky. Medieval is the loveliest, lightest, most natural red stain; the color is as if you’ve been chewing on your lip—or sucking on a popsicle. And it feels moisturizing (courtesy of vitamin E), not sticky. Also, I put the stain on with just concealer and mascara and boom—instantly looked awake and ready for work. (FYI: I do recommend looking when putting on concealer and mascara.)
Day 13: Revlon ColorStay in Top Tomato
Revlon ColorStay Ultimate Liquid Lipstick says in its ads that it is “food-proof.” Today, I put that to the test, wearing Top Tomato, a nice brick red. It was a tough challenge, to say the least, right up there with a bowl of soup, and, say, kissing. It was my lunch: a bag of Cheetos. (That noise you hear? It’s the collective shudder of nutritionists around the world.) Yes, that powdery, nuclear orange snack has ruined many a made-up mouth, and ColorStay passed with flying, ahem, colors. The Cheetos simply flaked off, and my beautiful red shade stayed intact. Perhaps one day I’ll venture forth and test it on a better lunch: a salad?
Day 14: Kat Von D Hellbent
I admit it: I wore Kat Von D Hellbent Lipstick for the attention…while I was walking my dogs. The color is a more soft pink red than I expected from this edgy, rock ‘n’ roll tattooer. (It has a soft sheen, and fades to a nice fuchsia throughout the day.) But I still figured, it’s red enough for someone to notice it while I did this most mundane of chores. The lawn maintenance guys next door didn’t notice me while I strolled by with my pooches. People walking next to us? Nary a glance from them. My dogs? Nah, they were just doing their business. Dejected, I returned home, and stepped inside. Right away, my roommate looks at me coming in and says, “Ooooo, you look so pretty in that red!” Score! Mission accomplished!
Day 15: Guerlain Rouge G Geisha
When I ordered Rouge G de Guerlain Jewel Lipstick Compact in Geisha, I thought of subtle images: graceful creatures with elegant kimonos, porcelain skin, and perfect little bow mouths. Little did I know what I was in for when I opened the package: the Cadillac Escalade of lipstick cases! In other words, big, flashy, over-the-top…and fun! The large, hinged silver lid opens up to reveal the lipstick itself and not just one mirror, but two—the more to peer at your pucker with. And the shade? It delivers. The beautiful cherry red would fit in just fine in the geisha houses in Kyoto.
Day 16: Guerlain KissKiss Exces de Rouge
With its vintage-inspired packaging, Guerlain KissKiss Lipstick in Exces de Rouge (a berry red shade) wouldn’t look out of place on an antique dressing table with a gold-trimmed hand mirror and hairbrush set. And so, when I put the lipstick on, I wouldn’t have been surprised to look down and see I was wearing a negligee and marabou-trimmed high-heel slippers, rather than my T-shirt, jeans, and Converse. I wore the shade to Whole Foods, where I pulled aside an employee to ask where the spelt bread was. As she answered, she looked from my eyes to my mouth, and back again. Was she dazzled by the red color? Who knows? I just know I how I felt—like I was swanning down the aisles like Rita Hayworth.
Day 18: Chanel Passion
While testing these lipsticks, I’ve been putting test swatches on my hand for the past couple of weeks. On my commute home from Midtown Manhattan to New Jersey, I went into a bakery at Penn Station. I heard a voice say, "That one is definitely the best." Confused, I looked up, and the bakery counter girl was pointing at my mouth! She said she noticed the swatches and wanted to tell me the color I was wearing was the best one. Cool! (I was wearing Chanel Rouge Allure Lipstick 14 Passion, a bright red with a touch of blue.)
Day 19: YSL Red Muse
On my way home from work, I was walking down Seventh Ave. toward Penn Station. A bicycle messenger suddenly skidded to a stop next to me and said, "Don't be scared, baby, but I just wanted to tell you you look fine in that red lipstick." Aaagh! Creepy…but I admit, I felt a small thrill about the lipstick compliment. What was I wearing? YSL Rouge Volupté Silky Sensual Radiant Lipstick SPF 15, in shade 17 Red Muse. A wonderful deep fuchsia red with an extremely satiny and creamy texture. That messenger has taste!
Day 20: Clinique Ambrosia
Don’t be scared of Clinique Colour Surge Butter Shine Lipstick in Ambrosia when you first open the cap. You’ll see a sparkly orange that’s fit to wear to an ‘80s karaoke night and not much else. But I wanted to challenge myself with this color; I usually shy away from orange reds, and when an online description called this an orange with a touch of red, I jumped. I’m glad I did. Like the name, it does go on deliciously smooth. And the color? I picture a warm peachy sunset. Like buttah!
Day 21: Wet n Wild Red Hot
Wet n Wild Silk Finish Lipstick Red Hot 519 A is the first red lipstick that made me feel like a ’50s sweater calendar girl. The color—a combo of a candy apple red and pink bubblegum—the girly fruity-licious smell, and the slick texture (it’s loaded with aloe) made me want to throw on a leopard-themed outfit, curl up on some pillows and pose—in a most ladylike way, of course. And at an amazing $1.29, you really can’t pass this up this opportunity to be a pinup.
BONUS! Day 22: CoverGirl in Really Red
CoverGirl Continuous Color Lipstick in Really Red 575 has been described on blogs as a “bright and hot” red. It is indeed really red—if you layer it up. It starts out as a more prim, sheer shade, with my lips showing through. The other day, wearing this color, I went out to dinner and drinks with friends. I was tempted to take a cue from my demure lipstick, and just order the lightest of white wines, or even a seltzer, and a salad. (I ended up with a beer and a cheeseburger. Oh well.) My friends said the shade lasted throughout the whole meal, but I didn’t believe them. I looked in the mirror, and there it was: It had faded, just a little, into a lovely—and prim—red pink.

Dancing Gangsters Make Strange Bedfellows!
Did you ever wonder where people get ideas for their latest movie, video or dance move? Many times it's inspired from the past. Take a look at these two videos: 1) Fred Astaire and Cyd Charisse in Band Wagon (1953) and 2) Michael Jackson in Smooth Criminal (1987). Today you can see singers like Usher taking inspiration from Michael Jackson who took inspiration from Fred Astaire. So what does this all mean? Well, basically it never hurts to look to the past to see the future!
I hope you enjoy both videos! Both are classics. Let me know of other inspirations and I'll post them to share with everyone :)
Happy Fashions,
Elisa L'Amourxoxo
p.s It's fantastic how graphic the Band Wagon scene is executed. The back ground is gray and pale pink which extends to the band instruments. The men's and women's suits are black with chartreuse, fuchsia or orange but it's all just a hint. It makes the main dancers stand out. Beautiful set and costume design. It's subtle yet effective.

Every Woman Should Own This White Dress
Honestly I covet this dress.
I envy this dress.
I lust for this white dress worn by Cyd Charisse in the movie Band Wagon. What other seven deadly sins can I apply to this dress!!! LOL. She is of course dancing with Fred Astaire...need I say more? They are dancing in Central Park in NY (ssh...don't tell anyone but in real life they are dancing on a sound stage in Burbank, CA...so perhaps I'm closer then I realize!) Anyways back to the dress! It's the kind of dress you wanted as a little girl that would twirl around as you danced but it has the sophistication and elegance you want as a woman. I love that it's simple and not pretentious. It could be worn with flats or heels. For today's lady I would shorten it to the knee. But really why mess with perfection?
And don't you think we should all be able to dance like that. I mean it should be a human right to be so elegant and sleek.
So I hope you enjoy! And take a look at the moves at 3:46 to 3:49 so smooth I could melt.
Take care and Happy Fashions!

Silverscreen Spotlight: Rita Hayworth
Hi Readers! How are you? I hope you are all doing well :) As you may have guessed I'm having a Rita moment. I just can't get enough. And see you next obsession!

I never thought that a choreographer could combine belly dancing and modern dance into one set but here it is and it's AWESOME!!! Well that is until there is a severed head paraded onto the dance floor...at least the plate is silver;)
ps. this is the move Salome from 1953 and this is the Dance of the Seven Veils.

Having a Rita Technicolor Moment!
I think someone needs to invent sunglasses where you see everything in technicolor! Until then enjoy this spotlight on Rita Hayworth! She sings "You Excite Me" from the movie Tonight and Every Night.
Going to Hell for Gilda: Put the Blame on Mame!
Gilda (1946) was Rita's biggest movie. She was the hurt and passionate femme fatale caught between two men. Both her strapless dress and sexy hair in one famous night club scene created a total evening look that was unforgettable.
"I got fan mail--and hate mail--about Rita's hair," revealed Helen Hunt, Colombia Pictures lead hair stylist. "Some clergymen declared that I would go to hell for contributing to evil because of Rita's hair in Gilda!
"Rita acted with her hair," explained Hunt. "I would be on the set and hear the director say, 'You're angry now. Toss your hair back.' Or 'You're happy in this scene. Use your hair."

Asked if she would ever get a short hairstyle, Rita Hayworth said she once had it short for a movie with Orson Welles (The Lady from Shanghai): "But I let it grow back as fast as I could. I don't see the point of following a fashion if it is not becoming."
The top photo is of Rita Hayworth on the set of Gilda.
The bottom photo is of her having her hair styled by famous Columbia Pictures hair stylist Helen Hunt who has been credited with giving Rita the luscious red locks.
"The change was important but subtle," Hunt explained, "... I used to bleach the front of Rita's hair, so the hairline wouldn't be so prominent--the cameramen were always after me to lighten her hair."
"I used to feel like a Spanish girl," said Rita, "but with red hair I feel, well--like an American."
Above is Rita Cansino before she became Rita Hayworth by having painful electrolysis done to her hairline.
Well in my book Rita is beautiful no matter what! But remember that when you feel down and are comparing yourself to the great Glamazons of today and yesteryear remind yourself that they feel just as insecure about their looks as you do about yours and their beauty has been created by a team and you my friend are the REAL DEAL:)

Liquid Metal: Sizzling Jennifer Lopez
Jennifer Lopez looks amazing. Period. This picture was taken of her at a benefit concert for the Apollo Theater in a bronze Gianfranco Ferre dress with Sergio Rossi heels, an Etro clutch and Roberto Cavalli jewelry.
Her silhouette looks stunning and her accessories have a relaxed feel. She looks beautiful without looking like she tried very hard. So a nod to her makeup, hair and clothing stylists. They won the fashion battle with this one.

American Woman: Fashioning a National Identity at the MET in NY
In the NY area?
Check this out: The 'American Woman' exhibition which features fashion archetypes from the 1800's to today at the Costume Institute of the Met. Below is a little excerpt about the exhibition that is running until August 15, 2010 and video of some of the costumes through the ages...just in case you can't make it over to see in person.
"The American woman's claim to fame in the fashion world mirrors what the country's roots are built on: freedom. From the heiresses in the 1890s to the screen sirens of the 1940s — and, really, into the 21st century — it was American style icons who helped move fashion forward with new standards of beauty, sexuality, power and art, even if many of the best couturiers lived and worked across the Atlantic. "

Quote of the Day: Judy Garland

Anna Nicole Smith...the Opera
Yeah...you read that right! ANNA NICOLE SMITH the OPERA!!!!! Really if you live in the Uk you have to go see this. I beg you :)
So, Anna Nicole Smith the opera will be performed at the Royal Opera House at Covent Garden for February 2011 with Dutch soprano Eva-Maria Westbroek in the title role.
Here's the blurb from the website:
A world premiere on the fascinating subject of Anna Nicole Smith. A model for Playboy, marriage to an octogenarian billionaire, scandal, legal battles and early death – this is the real-life story that has inspired Mark-Anthony Turnage’s new opera. Inevitably adult themes, strong language and sexually explicit content are part of this exciting work. Richard Jones directs this major new opera, with Antonio Pappano conducting a cast that has Eva-Maria Westbroek in the title role.
Here is a link to see when the show is & how much the tickets will be: http://www.roh.org.uk/season/opera.aspx

Retro Grandma Chic: Balenciaga & Louis Vuitton
Are you going to be rocking the hot granny look next summer? You might be because this is the styling coming out of the 2011 Resort Collections for Balenciaga (on the left) and Louis Vuitton (on the right). I rather like it but I don't think anyone is really going to wear this look in its styled entirety. But I am always a fan of retro designs. I think the elements broken up are going to be fab!!! It also kind of reminds me of the movie 9 to 5 with Dolly Parton :D... Don't you think?!?!?Share your thoughts...hit or miss?

Glam It Up: 6 Easy Makeup Tips
You don't need to be a professional makeup artist to look glam...you just need to know their secrets! So here is a quick compilation of tips that you can try in the comfort of your own home from artists Gregory Arlt, who is the director of makeup artistry for M.A.C Cosmetics and James Boehmer the international lead makeup artist for Nars. Also Soul Lee, national makeup artist for Shu Uemura, Rachel Goodwin, makeup artist for Chanel, celebrity makeup artist Tina Turnbow and Molly Stern, celebrity makeup artist for Covergirl. Let's begin:
1) Sculpt Cheekbones: Pick a matte contour color or matte bronzer that is one to two shades darker than your natural skin tone. Stern says to blend it from the top of the ear to underneath the apple of the cheek.
Then add a pop of rosy cheek color and a bit of highlighter along the tops of cheek bones. "The contrast will make cheeks look more three-dimensional," says Boehmer
2) Make Eyes Look Wide Awake: Go for light colored eyeshadow with a frost or a satin finish, says Arlt. Pale shades open up eyes while shimmer reflects light, making them appear brighter, like Kim Kardashian. (See left)
Using a nude (not white) on the lower rims of eyes will also create the illusion of larger eyes.
**I'd like to add that you should try and find a color that is one to two shades lighter then your own skin tone. It won't look as harsh. Try elf eyeshadow in Butternut (middle left). It's a budget friendly way to test the look. (eyeslipsface.com)**
3) Perfect Your Brows: Brush brows with a spooly brush (looks like a mascara wand), then fill in sparse area with a brow pencil using light, short strokes says Lee.
Finish by brushing brows once more to bland color and give a softer appearance.
**I'd like to add that you can go to your local drug store or chemist and buy clear eyebrow templates to help as a guide to shaping your brows on a budget.**
4) Create Luscious Lips: Make your mouth seem fuller by shading in the outer two-thirds with a pencil that's slightly darker then your lips and leave the center bare. Finish with a shimmery neural gloss, concentrating on the middle of lips for extra dimension.
**Extra tip: Pucker your lips and draw a line with lip liner from right out side the upper points of your lips down. Once you release you will easily see where the other two-thirds is. If on a budget try Rimmel London lip liner in Tiramisu.**
5) Make Your Skin Glow: Moisturize, then apply a mixture of creamy luminizer and foundation or tinted moisturizer to get all-over radiance, says Turnbow. Add luminizer to the tops of cheekbones, brow bones and cupid bows of lips like Kate Bosworth. (see left)
**If you are naturally oily I would skip this step and add a nice highlighter in the same areas suggested. It will stop you from looking to shiny too quickly. A nice foundation to try is Neutrogena Healthy Skin. I use Smashbox Softlight (bottom left) powder to give a pretty glow. (smashbox.com)**
6) Under Eye Brightening: Choose a concealer that is no more than one shade lighter then your skin, says Goodwin. If you need a color that corrects, peach helps with dark circles, and green counteracts redness.
And if all else fails go to a few makeup counters and ask what types of products they suggest you need. Test a few in different lighting before making a decision.

Are you into books on tape? How about sci/fi or comedy or drama? What about mysteries or ... English accents? Then I have something that you will enjoy. It's listening to free stories on BBC Radio 7. When I lived in London I used to listen to radio/internet stories like Dr. Who and Sherlock Holmes to Dracula and Winnie the Poo. And now that I am back in the States I listen to broadcasts on http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio7/.
The only catch is that you have 7 days to listen to the entire story and then it's gone. But it's well worth it to listen to dramatized stories at your leisure for free. I like to listen to the stories on this site when I am creating my hats and necklaces.
There are 134 programs to listen to right now. So scroll through and pick your fancy. http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio7/programmes/a-z/player

Daily Dose: 5 Vitamin Must Haves
I have to say that I am pretty good about taking my vitamins everyday...except for when I forget. But I haven't always been as diligent as I am now. Up until late teens I could only swallow teeny-tiny little pills...so I know your pain if you are one of those people.
I know vitamins aren't something that everyone immediately buys or takes, yet we all hear or read that they're important. So I thought this bit of information from Dr. Michael Roizen, co-author of You: Staying Young would be helpful and easy!
He says that 5 vitamins will help you everyday. Let's break it down:

4) One 200 milligrams of magnesium to counter act bloat and constipation.

As a plus size lady myself, it's not always easy to find something glam/retro and not have it look like my great-grandmother would wear it!!! I want sexy not dumpy. I want to be on the dance floor not in the corner.
Kiyonna is the place that I turn to for such occasions and I know you will really love what you see. I adore this dress. It's the perfect mix of vintage glam and simplicity combined. Think Marylin Monroe and Jane Mansfield combined...sexy sophistication.
I have bought quite a few items from Kiyonna and love them all. This dress is on the list to pick up. Plus it has really good customer reviews. AND it ranges from size 10-12 to a 32-34...yeah I'm serious!!! So if you or someone close to you is plus size then click on the pic below to find out more about my Little Black Dress Pick of the Day. It will save so many tears of frustration. And YOU WILL LOOK HOT!!! I'm just saying!;)

Fergie's New Ad Campaign for Avon
According to beauty journalist Rachel Jacoby at instyle.com,"Fergie’s debut ad campaign for Avon features the songstress in a sexy cut-out lace mini-dress with an armful of edgy bangles."
She described the scent, Outspoken (available for purchase later this month), "[as] everything Fergie—fresh and modern—with exotic notes of passionflower, ebony, saffron and even black leather!" In October 2009 when her appointment to Avon was announced, Fergie told WWD.com that “It was very important to me to bring what I have to the table. I’m a bit more rock and roll than some of the other artists, and Avon has really allowed my personality to come through.”
These are two new pics of her Avon ad.

Men in heels: WATCH NOW Lady Gaga's Newest Video Alejandro
Men with bowl hair cuts in high heels: Have you seen Lady Gaga's latest video Alejandro? It's both minimal and overdone in the Gaga style we have come to enjoy and expect...and it's awesome. Just when you think you know what she is going to do next she switches it up. Yet she remains true to her art form philosophy.
One thing I do notice is a video catalogue reference, purposeful or not, to some of Madonna's videos. Maybe it's coincidental but it does show how groundbreaking Madonna has been and continues to be.
Hope you enjoy,

Great Dress: Miranda Cosgrove
I think Miranda Cosgrove, who is 17 years-old, looks great at the 2010 MTV Movie Awards. She looks age-appropriate and very cute. I think young stars and young girls alike should take note: This is how not to look desperate! You can see in the photo below that the original dress came in blue but I love the red better...don't you? It just brightens up her complexion.

In Los Angeles, California Jessica Biel's long layers are most requested.
In Boston, Massachusetts Gwyneth Paltrow's angled bob is all the rage.
The ladies of Phoenix, Arizona are loving Katie Holmes short hair cut.
And finally the great gals of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania want the lovely blond layers with fringe/bangs of Reese Witherspoon.
